Movies

We bought Wallace & Gromit: Curse Of The Were-Rabbit a few weeks ago and finally made time to watch it on Saturday. What a cracking movie! It was laugh out loud funny, and easily one of the better movies I've seen in a while. But it's hard to not love an Aardman flick. I enjoyed the preview of their next movie, Flushed Away, coming out this fall.

Sunday night we watched Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story. We borrowed it from Chad & Khara. It's entertaining, but I expected more. It did have its funny moments though. I think Family Guy is better suited for the small screen.

Today I'm hoping to get to Blockbuster and rent an Oscar-nominated movie. I have seen 2 movies nominated now (March Of The Penguins, and Wallace & Gromit).

Not much else going on. Honey goes to the dentist on Thursday, and we may be going swimming this weekend for Elijah's birthday. We'll have to see how our schedules work out. In my perfect ideal world, Geoff is able to take Monday off and we can celebrate then. The pool would be less crowded. Not gonna happen, Mondays are busy for Geoff. A half day maybe?

Three weeks until my visitors! If the weather is as nice as it is today (70's), I think we'll take the grandmas (mine & Elijah's) to Garden Of The Gods. We'll see.

I'm baking a lemon cake right now, so I better go get the glaze ready. I'll close with a quote from the Family Guy movie (mentioned above).

Al Harrington: Hi, I'm Al Harrington, President and CEO of Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse! Thanks to a shipping error I am now overstocked on wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men, and I am passing the savings on to *you*! Attract customers to your business, make a splash at your next presentation, keep grandma company, protect your crops, confuse your neighbours! African American? Hail a cab, testify in church or just raise the roof! Whatever your wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man needs, come on down to Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse, route two in Weekapaug!

Thanks Melanie!

You Are a Peacemaker Soul

You strive to please others and compromise anyway you can.
War or conflict bothers you, and you would do anything to keep the peace.
You are a good mediator and a true negotiator.
Sometimes you do too much, trying so hard to make people happy.

While you keep the peace, you tend to be secretly judgmental.
You lose respect for people who don't like to both give and take.
On the flip side, you've got a graet sense of humor and wit.
You're always dimplomatic and able to give good advice.

Souls you are most compatible with: Warrior Soul, Hunter Soul and Visionary Soul

Caribou You

Jayla drove me to Mom To Mom this morning, and we left early enough for us to go to Caribou Coffee and treat ourselves. It's a cute little coffee house, just down the road from us. Jayla & Dave love it, and Geoff and I have been meaning to go, since Peet's is so far away now. I had a turtle mocha, here's the pic:

Yummy!

Today I ordered some camping books from AAA, as it is my plan for us to go camping this summer. I hope to find a campground as nice as the ones in CA, but it's been hard. Hopefully once the books come, I can nail down some prices and possible sites. A few of our friends here are keen, which is great as camping is more fun with more people. Especially if they share your interests (right Cate?).

Tonight Geoff has his men's group, so I'm making stir fry for myself.

Talked to Colin on Monday and got all caught up. Everyone there is good. He thinks he may be getting a promotion in the next few months. Snoop is doing well, and Colin has realized they need to think about getting hardwood floors or something all throughout the bottom floor. Yep, puppies will wreck havoc on your house. :)

I'll close with a quote from The Fisher King.

Jack Lucas: It's important to think. It's what separates us from lentils.

Welcome Baby!

Just got the call from Andrew...

Congratulations Andrew & Athena on sweet little Stephanie Mersina!

You guys are naturals (seen above with Elijah), you're going to do great! Can't wait to see pics!

Athena and Stephanie are both doing well, and expected to be home Saturday.

A Little Privacy Please

Inspired by the upcoming visit of my mom & Grandma, I tackled one of my projects. There is a small window in the guest bathroom, and I wanted to find a way to shield it from the outside. Someone would need a ladder to look through it, but I found it really bothered me having that window exposed. Months ago I used one of our home depot gift cards and bought a printed film to put on the window. The project was really easy, and I'm thrilled with the finished effect. Because it's just a simple film adhering with soapy water, it will be easy to remove if needed. Here are the before & after pictures:

As mentioned before, I'm excited about the upcoming visits we have in the next few months. That seeing us is a priority to some people means a lot to me. I wish I could do the same for others. I would like to make it a goal to get out to Ontario in the next 2 years. Money is really the only issue keeping me from getting out there this year.

I've been corresponding with Mike, my former classmate, and it's just fun to reconnect with someone from elementary school. The fact that he still talks to people from the old neighborhood is a little weird. I guess some people are just good at staying in touch with their roots.

House was awesome last night, and now I have to wait two weeks for a new episode. I hate that!

No big plans this week, same old, same old. Andrew & Athena's baby is scheduled for arrival at some point tomorrow. Gonna call today and find out when they are scheduled for the c-section. They are going to be great parents, I'm so happy for them. I look forward to being a "auntie".

I'm going to close with a quote from Bruce Almighty.

Bruce: There were so many. I just gave them all what they want.
God: Yeah. But since when does anyone have a clue about what they want?

Unforgettable?

I got the funniest message the other day on MySpace, from a guy I went to school with. I haven't spoken to him in well over 15 years, and I was a little shocked he remembered me. Am I memorable? I, on the other hand, remember tons of people, and stuff about people I went to school with. Anyways, none of y'all would know him, except maybe Doug & Colin. If you had lived in Burnewood, or you went to Julia Kiniski/Ottewell with me you might know him.

I was telling Geoff about it, and he said the funniest thing regarding it, and I still laugh thinking about it. I asked Geoff why would he send me a message? And Geoff said, "remember that scene in Fargo?" Then Geoff proceeded to act it out. It was really funny.

Saturday was an awesome day! We went swimming (see Elijah's blog), got groceries, and then went to date night. The desserts were yummy, and believe it or not we restrained ourselves from eating everything. We actually ate the least of everyone at our table. We won the Newlywed Game at our table (barely), but it was hard. My questions were harder than Geoff's.

Today Geoff has to work, but is aiming to knock off early so we can go to Runner's Roost (to get him running socks) and we'll browse at Linens & Things.

I've saved the best news for last...My mom & my Grandma are coming to visit! Next month, they'll fly out for a few days. This is huge! My Grandma has never been on a plane before. She's a little nervous and she's worried about needing insurance (she thinks she'll be in financial trouble should she have a health issue arise). But she has a few weeks to get herself ready. They are coming March 21. I'm super excited. I wonder...should we *magically* have all the fixins to make cabbage rolls? Geoff loves her cabbage rolls.

House is on tonight, whoo-hoo! And I hope to try and catch the gold medal women's hockey game today.

I'll close now with a quote from Fargo (for you Geoff).

Marge Gunderson: So, Mike, should we get together another time?
Mike Yanagita: No!
[sobs]
Mike Yanagita: I'm sorry, I... I shouldn't have done this. I shouldn't have done this, I shouldn't have... I thought we'd have a really terrific time.
Marge Gunderson: It's OK, Mike.
Mike Yanagita: You were such a super lady... and I'm, I'm so lonely.
[sobs]

Feeling Olympic

I love the snowboard cross, how much fun is that?! I know, I said we needed to cut back on all the olympics we've been watching, but it's easy to watch or tune out. Canada finally made a big jump from 4 medals to 11, and we still have hockey left. The U.S. is struggling, a lot of their "hopefuls", that they talk about all the time, have been choking. I like the unpredictablity of it, nothing is a gimme.

I'm currently watching the Switzerland-Canada hockey game, and it's just frustrating! Errgh!

Got a good night's sleep last night. Today we're still aiming to go swimming, and possibly go get groceries. Tonight is Mom To Mom date night. Dessert and a game at the ministry center. Free childcare, so I'm in. I hope to get the chance to talk to Myrna and find out what transpired at Noah's doctor appt this week. I'll maybe post about it later.

Geoff doesn't get Monday off work, but I hope maybe he'll work a shorter day.

I got the best email last night. My friend Erik proposed to his girlfriend, and she accepted. Congratulations Erik & Becky! I am so happy for them, I wish them all the best.

I'll close with a quote from Swing Kids.

Thomas: Look who we have here, Peter's priss. Have you talked to her yet?
Peter: Who says I'm interested?
Thomas: Your tongue was on the floor.

Take It Easy?

I've recovered from my yucky bout of the flu. Yay! I feel back to normal today, and was happy to go to Mom To Mom. It snowed last night (why does it always snow the night before I have to drive somewhere?!), so it made for a slow drive to Geoff's work, and not as slow out to MTM. Usually Thursday mornings tucker out the little tucker, but not today, he's just finally going for his nap now at 3pm. My friend Jan came over to watch him while I took Honey Cat for her yearly check-up, and they both seemed fine when I got back 50 minutes later. Honey Cat is in great shape for her age, the vet was impressed. The one thing she needs, didn't surprise me, but disappointed Geoff, Honey needs to get her teeth cleaned again. It's been two years since her last dentist visit, so I'm not surprised, I expected she'd have teeth/gum issues. But she's a member of this family, and her teeth are hurting, so we have to get that fixed. I doesn't look like she'll need any teeth removed, so hopefully it will stay this way. We really should think about pet insurance. :)

Well, I have an hour to squeeze in a nap before we have to go get Geoff. Sucks having only one car, but we can't afford two. That was a choice we made, to have a nice house and no second car.

I'll close with a quote from Just Shoot Me.

Nina: Honesty is one of those things people say they want, but they really don't, like education or children

Tv

Sanka Coffie: I am feeling very Olympic today, how about you?

We've got to stop watching so much olympics. We're dreaming about the olympics! (I am feeling much better, thank you for your prayers)

NBC, and CNBC have been giving us a ton of coverage, I'm fairly impressed. If I stayed up until all hours, I could watch curling. As it is, I get my olympic news from cbc.ca, which I'm pretty happy with. Now, if they would just stop talking about Bode Miller every 10 seconds!, I'd be happy. :)

For all the advice Wilson gives House, that's the thing he decides to do?!? Oooh, what a slippery slope you are going down my friend.

Skating With Celebrities. I am horrified to read all over the internet that Lloyd Eisler left his wife for Kristy Swanson! What? Sigh. I'll say it again, doesn't anyone view marriage as sacred? But I called it, that it would go down to Kristy & Lloyd vs. Jillian & John.

Since I opened with a quote from Cool Runnings, I may as well close with a quote from it too.

Irv: Our Father, who art in Calgary, Bobsled be thy name. Thy kingdom come, gold medals won, on Earth as it is in Turn Seven. With Liberty and Justice for Jamaica and Haile Selassie. Amen.

Happy Anniversary To Us!

9 wonderful years that get better every day. I love you Geoff, I'd marry you all over again. (But let's elope next time)

You're Kidding Right?

Ugh.

Obviously I didn't see the circle before hand. Elijah gets a cold, recovers, I lose my voice for a few days, and Elijah gets the flu. Elijah recovers, and now I have flu-like symptoms. Joy! Please pray it's a day long thing, as I don't want to be battling this all week.

Ruff

We're all a little off this morning, Elijah kept us up from 2:30am-5:00am. He just wanted to be held, and only by mom, and only in an upright position. Poor Geoff has to work, whereas Elijah and I will be able to nap. On the plus side (there's a silver lining in everything), Elijah didn't throw up yesterday. Yay!

Someone is planning a trip to Aurora for March, I'll post more when it gets solidified. It almost seemed like husbands were against visiting Colorado for whatever reason. At least one wife is still planning on coming in the fall, with or without hubby.

No plans for the weekend. The usual chores, and if Elijah is still really ill, he & I will stay home and Geoff will greet at church by himself.

Next week is our anniversary, 9 years. Whoo! No plans. :) I told Geoff I can wait on celebrating until we get to CA. I mean out there, we can easily get a babysitter and we could go out to dinner, or something. It's all up in the air. Who says you have to celebrate on the day of? One thing that is certain is that I get flowers, it's our one tradition.

Sunday is Athena's baby shower, I hope she has a good time. It should be all about her, because once the baby comes, you fade into the background. But you get to beam when people tell you how beautiful your baby is.

I'll close with a quote from Apollo 13.

Marilyn Lovell: Blanche, Blanche, these nice young men are going to watch the television with you. This is Neil Armstrong, and this is Buzz... Aldrin.
Neil Armstrong: Hi.
Blanche Lovell: Are you boys in the space program too?

Music Parade

Kelly gave me an iTunes gift card for my birthday, and while I haven't spent it all, I've spent a good portion of it. And she wanted to know what I bought...

Let Me Go - 3 Doors Down
Switch - Will Smith
La La La La Lemon - Barenaked Ladies
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground
Real Love - Mary J. Blige
Overkill - Colin Hay
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
W.E.E.K.E.N.D. - Arling & Cameron
Do It Again - Steely Dan
She Says - Howie Day
Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - The Temptations
Mental Picture - Jon Secada
If You Go - Jon Secada
Just Another Day - Jon Secada
Just A Gigalo/Ain't Got Nobody - David Lee Roth

And I bought a video, I bought Dane Cook's Comedy Central Stand Up special, which I love! Has my favorite joke, Christ Chex, Start your day the Holy way.

So I have a few dollars left, but you can see I have weird taste in music. :)

Tv

House was excellent this week, and I wasn't all shocked by the outcome. I could get into the whole theme of fidelity and morality, but I don't know if I want to. Anyways, I just thought Robert Sean Leonard performance was good in the episode. I like his character, I like all the characters. It's funny that we're nearly done watching season one, and then when we catch a new episode it feels like we are getting a rounder view of the characters.

Skating With Celebrities booted off Dave Coulier and Nancy Kerrigan this week. Not a shock, as they had the weakest performance. But they were entertaining. Lloyd Eisler & Kirsty Swanson were fantastic this week, and that was a bit of a surprise. I loved their skate this week. I think it will come down to them and Jillian Barbarie & John Zimmerman.

Haven't had the chance to watch this week's episodes of Scrubs, been plowing through the House DVD. I do plan to re-watch all of Scrubs season one when it arrives this week. They announced Scrubs season three is coming out on DVD in May, and it's already on my wishlist.

I'll close with a quote from House, because seriously, it's one of the best written shows on tv right now.

Dr. Gregory House: *Chase* killed that woman, and now Foreman's in charge?
Dr. Lisa Cuddy: Yeah, we have a pecking order here; if Cameron kills somebody, Chase takes over. There's a flow chart in the lobby.

Out Of Sorts

This post is just to get out the thoughts that cloud my head.

I had a dream last night about an old flame. We had dinner at his house with his family. No one had aged, his youngest sister looked the way I remember her, his other sister still stared at me with a hatred, and his parents were still indifferent to each other. The house was not his house, it was some other house.

This is pretty much the extent of the dream. There weren't many words said by anyone, it was more like there were feelings felt. Awkwardness and comfort at the same time. I had a song stuck in my head all night, so it was kind of like the soundtrack. It's my new favorite song, I walk around with it in my head all the time, I'm always singing it.

Over My Head (Cable Car) - The Fray

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

I always feel weird the day after a dream about someone in my past. It's like I forget the truth about the past, and I gloss over the negative. I feel like things were left unresolved, but that isn't true. Most of my past relationships (be romantic or friendship) ended clearly. But even now, I can't recalled how it all ended. And it's a door I know God doesn't want me to open. I know no good would come of speaking to this person. It's all very weird, and I'll probably feel odd all day.

I think I know what brought on the dream, it was a movie I caught on tv yesterday. Something about the main character reminded me of him.

I also had a dream that I was planning a trip with a woman from my Mom To Mom group. I think we were going to go somewhere on a boat. Her husband wasn't thrilled with this idea, but she didn't care. It's funny because I would never take a trip with her. I probably wouldn't hang out with her. She's nice enough, but there are few people I like to take trips with. So she would not make the cut.

Speaking of trips, Chad & Khara made mention of a road trip they wanted to do, so we'll have to look into it. It's funny to meet someone else who wants to visit the same place you do. Both Khara & I are interested in going to Nederland for Frozen Dead Guy Days. Since it's next month we need to solidify plans if that's what we'll do.

Elijah slept 16 hours last night. Crazy huh? Hey, I told him he needed his rest, and thankfully his body agreed with me.

I'll close with a quote from She's The One.

Mickey Fitzpatrick: Why are you getting so upset Dad? You don't even believe in God.
Mr. Fitzpatrick: That doesn't mean I'm going to stop being a good Catholic.

How's The Sicky?

Got sick again over the weekend. I felt fine Friday, and Saturday afternoon was getting ready for girls night, and my throat felt raw. It got worse as the night progressed, and by 8:30, I couldn't speak. Yesterday I barely had a voice to speak, I could talk softly or whisper, but that was it. I started coughing phlegm last night, and am still coughing it up today. So maybe it's on it's way out.

Saturday morning we did a trip to Home Depot, did not find brackets, but Geoff bought a motion sensor flood light for the backyard. For nighttime bbq-ing and security. (I have found brackets online, I just have to run them by Geoff to see what he wants to do). Saturday night I was able to go out to Chili's while Elijah was babysat. It was nice to hang with the girls and no baby! Will have to do it again, and ideally I won't be sick next time.

Missed church, because I didn't want to germ up the nursery (and oh yeah I couldn't talk). Da Bole was okay, not the most exciting game, but it was fun to hang out with Chad & Khara again. They lent us a DVD to watch, Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story. I don't know when we'll watch it, as we are still tackling House season one.

Tonight is Skating With Celebrities, and tomorrow night is brand new House (will Stacey choose House or Mark?), and Scrubs (with Zach's main squeeze Mandy Moore).

Well I'm going to close with a quote from America's Sweethearts.
Eddie: I'm a paranoid schizophrenic. I'm my own entourage!

Happy Birthday Athena!

Hope you have a great day, and a fantastic year ahead! Looking forward to seeing you this year, either up there or down here. :)

LOL

We had so much fun with Chad & Khara last night, we were all laughing so much. Dinner was tasty, we played cards and shared stories, and capped off the evening by introducing them to the hilarious world of Robot Chicken. We kicked them out at 11:30pm. Chad didn't even mind that Elijah threw up on him.

Tonight Geoff is playing poker with the guys, and I had been invited to go out to Chilis with the girls. We made plans to get a babysitter for the kids, but I think I'll bring Elijah with me, as his cough might make the other parents nervous about him being alone with their girls. I don't know how contagious he is, he's had the cough for a few days, and he still has a bit of a runny nose.

No big plans for today other than that. I am pretty much done emptying all the receipt boxes into the filing cabinet. Yay! I may sway Geoff into a trip to Home Depot to look at brackets. He has a sword and we want to hang it on the wall, so I'd like to see what options are available to us.

I'm feeling better still today. My throat feels fine, I'm just a little congested. FYI, I didn't take anything for it, except one day I took 2 Sudafed. I am a big proponent of letting my body fight things on it's own. But if it ever gets serious, I do go see a doctor. I just don't want my body becoming immune to drugs, so I limit my use of them. I want that for Elijah as well, but I'm more protective of him, and watch for signs that he needs medical attention. The big thing is a change in temperament. Yes he's got a cold, but he's still acting like himself. If he were lethargic, I'd be getting him in stat.

Before I sign off, just wanted to tell Athena, I am praying for you. Please don't get stressed, and push to get what you need. :)

I'm closing with a quote from Mr. Holland's opus.

Glenn Holland: Which instrument do you think you'd like to play?
Louis Russ: Well, I was kinda thinkin' like... How about electric guitar?
Glenn Holland: Well, this is a marching band. The extension cord will kill us.

This Sucks!

I did not get better, rather I got worse. An hour or so after I blogged, my whole back and neck just started to ache. That stayed with me all day and most of the night. My throat feels fine, I just ache, I feel warm & cold, and my head has a slight throb. The worst things about all of this is we had friends coming over Friday night, and I'll have to reschedule. Also sucky about all this is Geoff is way busy at work, so I'm left with Elijah taking care of me. He, by the way, has a a cough. But if you don't hear it, you wouldn't know he's sick by the way he tears through the house, laughing and playing.

Not The Time

I have a sore throat. I am less than thrilled, as I had big plans for the next few days. I am hoping it will fade by days end. Thank God we're big tea drinkers, I can soothe myself all day.

I had booked Honey an appointment for tomorrow, when Elijah was healthy and I had the option of asking a friend to watch him for an hour while I go off. Now I will either have to take the sicky & a cat to the appt. or try to reschedule. I called the vet, and they are closed today. I feel bad calling tomorrow morning to cancel my appt., but look at the options. I will try to get in next Thursday if I can.

Skating With Celebrities time! Kurt was eliminated. I was bummed, but Kurt was the first to point out, he's not suited for pairs skating, he's too small. I thought they did alright, they performed one of their best numbers (his partner was Deborah Gibson), and they were only one of two couples who didn't fall. Geoff doesn't like olympic events that are judged, it's too easy to be biased. He prefers if you have to beat a clock.

We have our hotel booked for San Diego, and the rest of the plans for CA are coming together awesomely, courtesy of Cindy. :) I'll probably be able to provide that info to those interested soon. We'll be able to see some of San Diego, and see our friends there. The only places I've been to in SD are the zoo, and some beach we went to with Anna & Francesco. I went to Sea World as a child, but I don't remember it much. Diane told me about a store downtown called the Seasick Giraffe, and I hope to see that. Their website is awesome, and I'm sure I'll find something unique to add to my collection.

Saw the trailer for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (aka Pirates Of The Caribbean 2). Looks excellent, can't wait! We'll definitely make it to that this summer.

Well I want to try to vacuum today, so I'll sign off. Please pray for Elijah and I to feel better, and for Geoff to stay healthy.

I'll close with a quote from Benny & Joon.
Joon: Some cultures are defined by their relationship to cheese.
