A Note For The Birthday Girl

from The Wedding Singer

Robbie: All right, remember - alcohol equals puke equals smelly mess equals nobody likes you!

I like you. And I think you look better now than you do in the picture. You get more beautiful with age. No payback.

TGIFriday's Random Ten

Come Out And Play - Offspring
Chrome Plated Heart - Melissa Etheridge
Can You Forgive Her? - Pet Shop Boys
Somebody's Crying - Chris Isaac
I'm Tore Down - Eric Clapton
D For Democracy - Spirit Of The West
Take A Picture - Filter
Tribute - Tenacious D
Invisible - Clay Aiken
Get Down On It - Kool & The Gang

I tried to watch The Grudge last night while Geoff was at Building Brothers, but after 30 minutes it was too spooky for me. :) So I ended up watching Rudy. I had never seen it, it's one of Pastor Jim's favorite movies, and also a movie Geoff saw on a date with someone in high school. Now, teasing him about seeing it is forever done. :) It was an alright movie, and I'd probably watch it again.

Happy Birthday Lisa!

You're an awesome best friend, and I love ya. You'll always be family to me. Welcome to 29!

I warned you I'd use this picture!

I Was There To Match My Intellect...

I took the Jeopardy preliminary test last night. For the first time, they were allowing people to take the test online. Passing the test doesn't mean a whole lot, it just allows you to take the test a second time at a location you've chosen from their list. If you pass the test again, you get to play a mock game, with buzzers. Then you have a personality interview. Here's where I tell you the part that sucks: you never find out how you did on the test. (what?) I know someone who had taken the preliminary test before (I'll keep you anonymous in case you didn't want people to know), so I knew the procedure and rules. The test lasted 10 minutes, 50 questions, and 15 seconds per question. It was hardly time to think and I had to write out my answer (not in the form of a question). The categories ranged from history, Victorian lit, actors, biblical names, nations, medicine, ect. It was very challenging, and I didn't know nearly as much as I though I did. But it was entertaining, and I know I won't be hearing from them. Had I passed, they would invite me to L.A. (my selected city) to take the test again. But I'll never know how many I got right, just as my friend would never know how close they got (but I'd guess close). In any case, I can take the test again in year (your eligible to take it once a year). Now I better get to studying.

I watched Beyond The Sea earlier this week. It was a good movie, and I was surprised it was passed over for Oscar nominations two years ago. It's not Best Picture worthy, but Kevin Spacey is wonderful and his singing is very good. The music was the best part, but being a biopic on Bobby Darin, you'd hope the music stands out. The rest of the cast was good too, Kate Bosworth was... well... Kate Bosworth. She's not a great actress, but she's okay. I guess I'd like to see her try a role with some meat to it.

Scrubs is available on iTunes! Well this season anyways. 'Bout time! I don't think I'll buy any episodes, I'd rather buy the DVDs. Still no word on if there will be another season, or if NBC is keeping the show. Frankly I'd be surprised if it went another year.

I suppose I'll close now with a quote from Beyond The Sea.

Charlie Maffia: You wanna send roses to the mother?
Bobby Darin: Charlie, you always make sure the mama dog likes you before you go near her puppy.

I Thought It Was Funny

from yesterday's Fox Trot

Misc Thoughts

Finally House is back after a too-long hiatus (I'd forgotten that Wilson moved in). It was a great episode, and Fox promises no more breaks as we head towards the season finale. My favorite thing last night? Seeing that House has Blackadder on his TiVo.

Coinstar is the bomb! I was able to turn all my change into an Amazon gift certificate for free! Now I have to narrow down (of my 188 items) what I want to put my $19 towards. Can you believe I had that much change? I need to remember that I need to have at least $5 in change if I want to get another certificate. They have other "no-fee" options, which I think is better than having to pay to get my change in cash.

You've probably already heard this, but there is going to be an Ocean's 13. As of yet, no Julia Roberts, or Catherine Zeta-Jones. And this time 'round, Linus gets the love interest. Expect to see it in theatres 2007.

Got in touch with Brittney, Nicole's sister. When she gets back from spring break this weekend, we'll set a date for her to come babysit Elijah.

I had a dream last week that Lisa flew here to see me, and we saw Captain Tractor (with Brock) open for Aerosmith. It was a good concert, for a dream. Steven Tyler was really impressed with Brock's improvised song.

I wanted to rant about how I'm so sick of the expression "free speech". How free speech should not be without responsibility. But I'm just too tired of expelling energy on it. I have a lot of things I'm tired of expelling energy on, so I usually vent to Geoff or Lisa, and then I let it go.

It's another gorgeous day here, I may go to the park with my girlfriends.

I'm going to close with a quote from Life Of Brian.

Reg: If you want to join the People's Front of Judea, you have to really hate the Romans.
Brian: I do!
Reg: Oh yeah, how much?
Brian: A lot!
Reg: Right, you're in.

I Kick Ass!

You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.

Ha Ha Ha

If I didn't have Geoff around, I don't think I'd laugh nearly as much, and I love laughing. This weekend had so many laughable comments, but I doubt they translate as well on a blog. Elijah is also very funny, he makes the funniest faces, and he loves laughing too.

Robot Chicken is coming out on DVD next month! If you haven't seen any episodes, seek it out, and laugh your butt off.

I got Kelly's itinerary yesterday and I'm super stoked that she & Roman are coming for a weekend. I'm excited to meet him and I'm excited for them to meet Elijah.

April will be a busy month, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The BBQ guest list is a good size, it's up to 15 and two more families still haven't responded. It's just the usual circle of friends we see on Sundays. Then in a week Diane & Glen will be here, then Kelly, then Geoff is off to Monterey for a week. Once he gets back it's time for the Cherry Creek Sneak.

This weekend we watched The Birds, as Geoff had never seen it, and I haven't seen it in almost 15 years. I find it suspenseful despite the fakeness of the bird attacks.

I'm going to close with a quote from Ed Wood.

Bela Lugosi: This is the most uncomfortable coffin I've ever been in.

Blah

Mom & Grandma left early yesterday morning. We went right to Caribou afterwards getting there just after it opened. We were the only ones staying there to enjoy our coffee. It was a gorgeous day, the sun was shining, it was warm enough to not need a coat. Today the wind is blowing and Geoff has to run 11 miles. We'll clean the house, and hang out. We all slept in until almost 8am, so we missed church.

Not much has been going on with me, and not much is on the horizon. In two weeks Glen & Diane will be here. I have no Mom To Mom for the next two weeks.

I borrowed some movies from the library that I need to watch, The Grudge and Beyond The Sea. Hogan Knows Best returned with a new season, so we're watching that, and I've been watching Top Chef. I try to steer clear of reality shows, but it's so funny to watch Hulk Hogan's parenting skills.

I've been trying to keep on top of my correspondence, and I'd like to make time to read. But it's so nice to take an afternoon nap.

Saturday we're having a bbq with our friends to celebrate Geoff's birthday early. It's BYOB, Bring Your Own Barbeque-ables. What ever you want to throw on the grill. I'm hoping the weather will be nice enough to sit outside. We don't have patio furniture, so I've asked people to bring foldout/camping chairs. Just a low-key gathering with friends.

Well, I'm gonna close with a quote from Grosse Pointe Blank.

Marty: I'm a professional killer.
Paul: Do you have to do postgraduate work for that?

Grandmas

Elijah and I have something in common, we both have grandmas visiting!

It's been fun having my grandma here, and my mom is happy to return to Colorado. We went to the mall on Wednesday, mostly to window shop. Yesterday we enjoyed the brunch at Mom To Mom (by the way my breakfast hash dish turned out awesome!), then in the afternoon Mom bought out Harry & David's & I looked for clothes at Kohls. Today we hung around the house and went to the park two doors down. It's was a little draining to drive Geoff to and from work just to have the car.

Mom & Grandma fly home tomorrow morning. I hope they enjoyed hanging out with Elijah (who wouldn't). I enjoyed having someone to play cards with (especially crib because I won).

Tomorrow morning is also Geoff & Elijah's first parent & tot swim class.

I don't think I listened to any music this week so no random ten today. I'll close with a quote from My Stepmother Is An Alien.

Steven Mills: I think... I think...
Celeste Martin: What?
Steven Mills: Would I scare you... if I told you I love you?
Celeste Martin: Not unless you hit me at the same time.
Steven Mills: I'm serious.
Celeste Martin: So am I!

Friday's Random Ten & Misc Thoughts

Decided to list ten random songs from soundtracks.

Beauty School Drop-Out - Frankie Avalon (Grease)
One Of These Things First - Nick Drake (Garden State)
Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Center Stage)
She Caught The Katy - Blues Brothers (Blues Brothers)
I've Got A Theory/Bunnies/If We're Together - Cast Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Once More, With Feeling)
Lonely At The Top - Randy Newman (You've Got Mail)
Working In A Coal Mine - Windfred Louder Staff (Drew Carey Show)
Birth Ritual - Soundgarden (Singles)
Happy Birthday Lisa - Bart Simpson (Songs In The Key Of Springfield)
Haben Sie Gehört Das Deutsche Band? - Brad Oscar (The Producers)

It's an interesting collection.

It seems we have a lot to do this weekend, clean the house, go grocery shopping, do our taxes, couples group, and Geoff has to do a run on Sunday. Tuesday night the guests arrive, and depending on how the day goes, Geoff may go alone to the airport. It's very up in the air right now.

Elijah has been whiny the last few days. I'm not sure if it's the two new teeth coming in, if he's getting sick, or what. Last night he went to bed at 7:15-7:30ish was up at 8:15 until 8:30 then up again at 10 and didn't go to sleep until 12:30am. He wasn't feverish, just really whiny. I may try using the tiniest amount of teething gel next time to see if that helps.

I had a wildly fun idea about spending some time in Victoria with my brother, but it isn't going to work out. Everyday I'm wavering about will-I-or-won't-I make it up to Edmonton this summer. If we have the money, I want to. I may even give up on the idea of being able to rent a car. It works out okay, most people I know there have a car so they can probably get to me (& Elijah). My grandpa hopes if we make it up there we can go out to the lake to see them, as that's where they will be.

Last Friday night we watched Survivorman on the Science channel (it airs on OLN in Canada). He was trying to survive in Nunavut. It was pretty cool.

He apparently has done a ton of outdoorsy tv shows. It's an interesting concept for a tv show, considering he films it all himself.

Elijah is napping, and that sounds like a wonderful idea to me. I'll close with a quote from 10 Things I Hate About You.

Walter Stratford: Hello, Katarina. Make anybody cry today?
Kat Stratford: Sadly, no. But it's only 4:30

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

courtesy of wikipedia

Saint Patrick's Day (March 17) is a Catholic feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (386-493), the patron saint of Ireland. It is a national holiday in the Republic of Ireland (but not Northern Ireland); the overseas territory of Montserrat; and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people and increasingly by many of non-Irish descent. Like Christmas and Halloween (which originated as the eve of All Saint's Day) it is increasingly celebrated in a non-religious manner, the celebration themed around all things green and Irish; both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green, imbibing Irish food and drink, and/or attending parades. The largest parade in the world is held in New York City. Parades also take place in Dublin and in most other Irish towns and villages. Other large parades include those in Savannah, Georgia, Manchester, Montreal, and Boston. Large parades also take place in other places throughout Europe and the Americas, as well as Australia and Asia.

As well as being a celebration of Irish culture, Saint Patrick's Day is a Christian festival celebrated in the Catholic Church, the Church of Ireland (among other churches in the Anglican Communion) and some other denominations. The day always falls in the season of Lent and sometimes during Holy Week. In church calendars (though rarely in secular ones) Saint Patrick's Day is moved to the following Monday when it falls on a Sunday. If it falls in Holy Week, it is moved to the second Monday after Easter. It is traditional for those observing a lenten fast to break it for the duration of Saint Patrick's Day.

In many parts of the U.S., Britain, and Australia, expatriate Irish, those of Irish descent, and ever-growing crowds of people with no Irish connections but who may proclaim themselves "Irish for a day" also celebrate St. Patrick's Day, usually by drinking alcoholic beverages (lager dyed green, Irish beer such as Murphys, Smithwicks, Harp or Guinness, or Irish whiskey, Irish Coffee or Baileys Irish Cream) and by wearing at least one article of green-colored clothing.

For The Writers In My Life

You Should Be A Poet

You craft words well, in creative and unexpected ways.
And you have a great talent for evoking beautiful imagery...
Or describing the most intense heartbreak ever.
You're already naturally a poet, even if you've never written a poem.

Geoff's Words Of Wisdom & Humor

This story is probably only funny to me, but it really made me laugh.

I was telling Geoff that I was up to 15 friends on myspace, and that one of my friends was Steven Page. And he said, yeah so, it would be more impressive if you were Jimmy Page's friend. I replied, why would I want to be friends with someone who worships the occult? And in true Jesus-like fashion he says, that's exactly who you should be friends with!

And he is right. That's what Christians are supposed to do, love EVERYBODY. That was also the sermon on Sunday, to show kindness to everyone, not just people who are kind to you. And I felt like Pastor Jim was talking to me. Because I'm not always nice to everyone. In fact, when people are mean and hurtful to me, my response is to ignore them. To distance myself from them. Because why would I want to leave myself open to being attacked? So I'm going to pray on it, and ask God to help me love those who aren't always nice to me.

Sigh

Elijah has been really needy (and clumsy) the last week. It's like turning one changed him. He seems to play fine by himself, then he realizes I'm not right beside him, and he wants to be held. One the positive side, his personality has always grown into him being quite the character. He's so funny!

Yesterday I went out to Park Meadows mall with the girls (Nicole, Jayla and their girls). It was alright, the highlight for me was eating in the food court. I had a cheesesteak. Mmmm. It's a nice mall, has a lot of the shops at Cherry Creek. Next time we go out there, I want to hit the store surrounding the mall, like REI, or The Great Outdoors. I want to look at camping stuff. I'm not sure how a group camping trip will work out, as Nicole is due to have her baby in July, and Jayla said Dave took a summer coaching job. It may end up being just us the Wyomingites. Which is cool by me. :)

Yesterday was also Meg & Mike's 2nd Anniversary. Happy Anniversary! Has it really been two years? It feels like Mike has been with us forever.

It snowed all day Sunday, and it melted yesterday. We may get another small dose of snow next weekend. I don't care, so long as it warms up by the time my mom & grandma get here on the 21st. My mom find a sitter for Fonzie (her kitten), and I think my grandma is thrilled at the idea of getting off the farm for a few days. This may be the start of a travel phase for her. Wouldn't that be exciting? I was telling her the other day how I want to do a cruise of Alaska, and she was agreeing it would be nice. Grandma also told me Angela & Craig are in Costa Rica right now. Those two don't let grass grow under their feet I guess.

In honor of it being sunny today (and a high of almost 50!), Elijah and I will walk up to Safeway and pick up a few things.

I'm gonna close with a quote from Miss Congeniality.

Kathy Morningside: Of course he had a gun. This is Texas! Everybody has a gun. My florist has a gun!
Stan Fields: I don't own a gun. My ancestors were Quakers.

Weekend

Spent a lot of the weekend trying to stay warm. It was chilly, and snowy. Saturday we went to Caribou for coffee then did some shopping (Target, Radio Shack, Safeway). I had a nice 2 hour nap, and then yummy pork chops for dinner. Sunday spent the whole morning at church, and then cuddled up in bed with Honey. Tonight we're having homemade pizza for dinner.

Exciting huh? Eh, can't complain too much. I am going to Park Meadows mall with Jayla tomorrow, and Thursday I'll have Mom To Mom again. My group has to bring snack, so I'm swinging by Krispy Kreme on the way there. I go by it every Thursday anyways, and the hot light is always on, so it makes sense. (I'll eat some for you Athena!)

Last night we watched Walking Tall. It wasn't awful. I didn't expect much so I wasn't disappointed. I would have liked to see more people get the business end of the 2x4, but it was pretty entertaining when that did happen. I got some episodes of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 out of the library, so hopefully we'll have time to tackle that this week.

I'll close with a quote from The Mummy Returns.

Rick: All right - you're here, the bad guys are here, Evie's been kidnapped - let me guess...
Ardeth Bey: Yes. Once again they removed the creature from his grave.
Jonathan: I don't mean to point fingers, but isn't it your job to make sure that doesn't happen?

***Update***

Brooke's surgery went well, and she's practically back to normal. It was a hard thing for Lisa to watch, but she's a trooper. FYI, Brooke had to get tubes put in her ears to allow for the drums to be opened wider. The tubes will fall out on their own in the next 6-12 months.

I'm glad it all went smoothly Lisa. Love ya.

TGIF?

I'll post my random ten and then we'll go from there.

If You Could See - Tonic
Just - Radiohead
Confessions II - Usher
He Wasn't Man Enough - Toni Braxton
Canned Heat - Jamiroquai
Jesus He Knows Me - Genesis
He Reigns - Newsboys
It Falls Apart - The Odds
Shy Guy - Diana King
All Things In Life - Toad The Wet Sprocket

Yay, it's Friday. I guess. My weekends don't always feel all that different from my weekdays. The problem is I want to get out on the weekends and away from home. Geoff, who has been away from home all week, doesn't want to be out driving anymore. I'm hoping to find a compromise. I need to find someplace I want to drive to. After posting (and boasting) about our wonderful spring weather, it snowed! Gone are the 70 degree days. I don't mind so much if it's at least 50. Not knowing the conditions of the roads, I'm hesitant to drive up to Boulder Falls (the 36 scares me).

Brooke is having surgery this morning, so my mind is occupied with that. I know she's gonna do fine, and I hope this will solve her health issues. Lisa is going to call me this afternoon and let me know how it goes.

Been looking into the Edmonton trip idea, and frankly I'm not sure the money is there. It wouldn't be so bad, but the car rental is what kills ya. So we'll visit the idea in a few months and go from there.

I'm going to close with a quote from Rushmore. Have a good weekend everybody.

Max Fischer: Maybe I'm spending too much of my time starting up clubs and putting on plays. I should probably be trying harder to score chicks.

Yeah That's Me

How You Life Your Life

You are honest and direct. You tell it like it is.
You're laid back and chill, but sometimes you care too much about what others think.
You tend to have one best friend you hang with, as opposed to many aquaintences.
You tend to always dream of things within reach - and you usually get them.

Feeling Good

Since I got a comment from Geoff about not posting a "real" post, I thought I'd try to come up with some stuff.

Things are good. I'm healthy, my weight is at a good level, I'm feeling good about life. Yeah, I had a bad day last week, but when I put my "problems" in perspective to those around me with bigger problems, it makes me feel blessed. Elijah is good, he's a sweet little boy. Some moments he's a handful, but overall he's a good kid. Geoff is good, he's busy, but he finds time to do little things for me to give me attention. I can't complain much. I've got visitors coming in 2 weeks, and 2 different visitors in April. I have a vacation in June, and hopefully a trip to AB this summer to see my new nephew and my "niece" Stephanie. Life is great.

I've been watching a lot of tv, and I'd like to get my nose back into some books. Our trip to Nederland this weekend is off, no frozen dead guy this year, we'll have to aim for next year. I'd still very much like to get out of town for the day, but I'll have to check with Geoff and his running schedule. Maybe we could go to Boulder Falls, or Estes Park. It's so spring-like here, we've got spring fever. I want to get out and see Colorado!

With the last of my iTunes money from Kelly, I bought Youth (Collective Soul) which was released a few years ago. It's a fantastic album. The last album of theirs I bought was Discipline Breakdown, and I LOVED that album. Youth is very good, a few stand out tracks for me are Better Now (quickly becoming my new theme song), How Do You Love, There's A Way, Home, and Feels Like (It Feels Alright).

Yes I watched the Oscars, and overall I was entertained. I thought Jon Stewart was pretty funny, and hands down Reese Witherspoon was the best dressed. I don't know why Jessica Alba was getting all the attention. I don't think she's all that pretty, I don't think she's all that talented, and why was she there anyways? Obviously she has a good publicity agent. Geoff and I always fill out ballots for who we think will win, and Geoff won 13 to my 11 this year. Last year we tied. I didn't count on Memoirs Of A Geisha winning so many technical awards.

It was a little like Joaquin Phoenix week for me last week, I watched Walk The Line, The Village, and Signs. Could've rounded it off with Gladiator if I had more time. :)

I'll close with a quote from Signs.

Merrill: Morgan, this crop stuff is just about a bunch of nerds who never had a girlfriend their whole lives. They're like thirty now. They make up secret codes and analyze Greek mythology and make secret societies where other guys who never had girlfriends can join in. They do stupid crap like this to feel special. It's a scam. Nerds were doin' it twenty five years ago and new nerds are doing it again.

She's Lucky We Love Her

Sweet little Honey Cat is lucky we love her so much. The dentist bill was more than we anticipated, so it has been put on hold for a little while. We need to save some money up, and then we'll go back and get it taken care of. But today she had the cleaning done.

Elijah had fun at MTM, I had an okay time. I mostly enjoyed the fellowship, and God Bless the person who brought powdered donut holes!

Last night we watched Walk The Line. It was good, I dug the music, and Reese Witherspoon was wonderful. I also really liked Ginnifer Goodwin's performance. She's a great actress, I loved her on Ed (the tv show), and Mona Lisa Smile.

Got the word, Kelly's coming to CO in April. Whoo-hoo! April will be a busy month with Glen & Diane also coming for a visit, and Geoff going back out to CA for a conference. Ah but busy can be good.

Been trying to catch Deal Or No Deal this week, but things keep coming up at 7 preventing me to watching a whole episode. I'll aim to catch the reruns on CNBC. House is back next week, and we caught up on the Scrubs episodes from a few weeks ago.

I'll be tuning into the Oscars Sunday night, and rooting for Walk The Line. I'll close with a quote from that.

Warden: Mr. Cash, please refrain from singing songs that would remind them that they're in prison.
Johnny Cash: You think they forgot?
