Going To The Zoo

Took the boys to the zoo today with Amy & Caley. Man it was busy. We spent 3 hours there. Elijah liked the polar bears best I think. My favorite part? When a zoo worker instructed us to get inside the nearest shelter because an animal was on the loose. For ten to fifteen minutes we were holed up in a snack shop. The couple next to us could see there was a commotion, but couldn't see more than that. Once we were allowed to leave, we inquired, who broke out, and were told it was a giraffe. We later heard it was simply a drill, that they conduct them a few times a month. Well, it was exciting while I thought it was real. :)

The zoo is a 45 minute drive from our house, so we really only go on free days, or when someone is in town and wants to go. Today we just wanted to go, so I bought a ticket. Once Elijah stops being free (age 3) perhaps we'll look into getting passes.

I'm super stoked that Jen & Greg are going to be here in a few days. I know the boys will get a kick out of having them here.

Tomorrow night Top Chef returns to pit season one's final four (Harold, Tiffani, Dave & Stephen) against season two's (Ilan, Marcel, Elia, & Sam). I think it should be entertaining. Then next week, season three starts.

Solutions

Geoff took matters into his own hands today, and tried to get the "downstairs neighbors" to move. I saw no sign of them this morning at 4:30am, and the dirt had not been disturbed. So Geoff took a trip to Home Depot and bought supplies. He spent almost four hours digging a trench, putting down a wire barrier, and filling it. I documented it for you on Shutterfly. The album is called Fox Problem.

I have already contacted three wildlife removal companies, in case we need them. I hope it won't come to that. I wonder if will would be able to afford it.

Foxy Lady

So they moved out. For a few days, then 3 of them are back, and the old hole wasn't good enough. They've made a new hole, right by the front door. There is soil all over the place and Wednesday morning, a dead bird and feathers everywhere. Ergh!

I had to contact the Division of Wildlife, and they said I can try to encourage them to move, or I have to bring in someone to "solve the problem". I don't want to be cruel, they are cute, but they have overstepped their bounds. If they lived on the side of the house and never left dead things, I'd let them stay. I won't have two giant holes and carcasses.

Last night before bed, I had an encounter with one. He was sitting in the middle of the lawn, so I opened the door and yelled at him. He barked at me, then ran across the street and continued to bark. Probably to tell the others there's a mean lady, don't leave the hole. Who knows. I saw them again at 4:30am, but since it was Miles' feeding time, I didn't bother to interact with them.

Sigh. Can't say my life is boring.

Facebook is so much fun. I'm seeing how some old friends are doing. It's kinda like when I went to Doug's wedding. It's like a reunion. Though it brings to mind a quote from Friends.

Loooonnnngggg Weekend

Memorial Day was certainly memorable. We woke up at 3:45am to start our day. Miles had to feed, we had breakfast and we headed out the door before 5:15am. The drive to Boulder went well, hardly any traffic. We parked the car, and then parted ways, Geoff to the start line, the boys and I to the curve on Folsom Street. This is right before the runners head into the stadium. I had my spot picked out, this patch of grass, plenty of room to spread out. I got there around 6:50am, and Geoff's wave was set to start at 7:07am. The boys did great. I got a little worried when the group of 20 bagpipers showed up to set up beside me (oops, I forgot that was their spot), but Miles slept through the whole race, and Elijah danced to the music. He missed Geoff passing us, but I saw him. Held up the sign we made, but Geoff missed it. Because I was holding the sign and trying to wrangle kids, I wasn't able to take a picture of Geoff. Sorry.

Geoff joined us in the meeting spot, then we all went to the expo to get free goodies. Once we milked that, we headed back to 29th street mall, where we parked the car. Naturally we got some Peet's.

We're still waiting on the website to upload the results. But Geoff knows roughly how fast he was.

So we're still trying to catch up on sleep. But we're parents, it'll be years before we catch up.

On tap this week... not much. Going to the dentist Thursday morning. Just looking forward to next weekend when Jen & Greg get here.

Tv stuff. Tonight is the House season finale. Whoo-hoo! Oh yeah, I spent all of last weekend watching the Ninja Warrior marathon on G4. I think I saw every tournament. It's a pretty good show. Studio 60 was awesome last week. The exact reason this show is great, it was laugh out loud funny.

I'm Not A Foody, But I Wanna Be

Warning! This blog post is gonna be about food. I warned you Lisa.

I've been on a roll lately in the kitchen. In the last two weeks, I made pumpkin bread, peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and somehow perfected Nana's chili. It's empowering to be queen of the kitchen. Plus it's something Elijah can help me with. The other night we made burgers, and his job was to add the seasoning.

Today the boys and I picked up Geoff for lunch at Noodles & Co. Kelly said it's pretty good, and if you sign up online, you get Noodlegrams with offers. So we decided to try it out. Elijah and I shared the Wisconsin Mac & Cheese, and Geoff had the Whole Grain Tuscan Fettucine. Geoff's mac & cheese is far superior, so next time I'll try something else. 'Cause who doesn't like noodles?

I've gotten into two new shows on the Food Network, Dinner:Impossible, and Diner, Drive-Ins & Dives. Watching DD&D makes me very hungry, as that's my favorite kind of food. I'm hoping he'll spotlight something close to home we can try.

Top Chef Miami starts June 13, which should be interesting. If they can go back to the quality of contestants they had season one.

We had a nice hot weekend here. Saturday, we didn't make it to the railroad museum. Miles ended up sleeping until 8am, which was when we planned to depart. So instead we went to the local fire station for their open house.

Speaking of projects, Geoff & Glen put up a fan in Elijah's room. Yeah, I figured Glen didn't do enough projects at all his other houses, he needed to help Geoff with one on his vacation. I'm being sarcastic.



Yesterday was a particularly hard day being a mom to a toddler. I wasn't sure I was going to get out to do errands with the way he was behaving. Wouldn't you know it, I ran into Amy & Caley at Target. So we chatted and grabbed a coffee. Then we went back to Amy's for the kids to run and around get out some energy.

Colin's surgery went alright, and he thinks he'll be back at work on Monday. They had to remove all the cartilage from his knee. But the whole family is stoked about the California trip. It means so much to me that he's choosing to spend his vacation to see us.

Jen & Greg will be here in a little over 2 weeks. I heard Jen was gloating she'll be the first Californian to meet Miles.

Animal House

Friday I was out in the front with Elijah and saw another dead bunny. This one had it's head separated and sitting a few inches away. I called Animal Services, and they told me to deal with it myself. I said no way, you come deal with it, I ain't touching it. Then last night, I was getting ready to close the blinds for the night, and saw... a family of foxes! Where did they come from? That's right, Momma Fox and her 4 baby foxes have been living in the hole under our porch. I saw them come out and then watched them run around and chase each other all over our lawn and front street. Geoff hopes once the babies grow larger they'll all move out.

In other animal news, those who have visited us have seen Scoliosis Horse. I'm sad to say, I think he died. We haven't seen him in forever. He'll be missed.

So it was inevitable, Vegas fever has struck this house again. We got a flyer from the Orleans about some deals they have going on. Then a week later we were driving and the iPod played ZZ Top's Viva Las Vegas. AS we heard the end of the song, we sign a sign for a garage sale on Orleans street. It's like the fates are trying to tell us something. I don't know if we'll be able to swing it, so we'll see. I'm still trying to convince Geoff to let me go next August with my mom for her birthday.

Oh Colin is having surgery today, so keep him in your prayers and pray for a speedy recovery.

Yesterday we drove up to Boulder. We stopped at Peet's at the 29th Street Mall, then walked along the creek. Geoff showed me the best place to park for the race, and how to get to Folsom Field. Then we went to Uno's for lunch. It was pretty good pizza, but I think I'll have to actually go to Chicago to get the best deep dish pizza. Still, it's better than no pizza at all. We were kinda pooped when we got home, so we spent the rest of the day vegging.

Miles slept through the night, so we all got up at 6:30am. I opened my cards, and now Geoff has taken the boys away for a few hours so I can go back to sleep. :) And that's what I'm gonna do.

Just Call Me Supermom

Today, I did something daring. I watched Caley for 90 minutes while Amy went to the dentist. It wasn't so hard. At one point I strapped Miles to my chest and pushed the big kids in the joggy stroller.

So I had my dates mixed up, and the railroad museum isn't until next weekend. So Saturday we'll go up to Boulder and I'm going to get my Mother's Day lunch a day early. I've been dying to go to Uno's for Chicago deep dish pizza. It's supposed to be the best. This will be our first venture into restaurant eating with two kids, and hopefully it won't be the last.

Yesterday I walked 5 miles. It was tiring, but good. I should have worn sunscreen, I got a little burnt. So today I put it on when Elijah and I hung out in the backyard. It's almost time for me to set up his alligator pool, the weather is so hot. I want to buy a canopy for the backyard so I can have Miles out there in the shade. The back gets the sun until like 3 or 4, so that's a lot of sun.

Not much else going on. Probably going to do a walk to Southlands on Friday.

Too Short

The weekends are too short. Friday, Elijah and I made chocolate chip cookies, and they were fabulous. Saturday, Amy, Miles and I went to Park Meadows Mall to shop. I had wanted to make it to the outlet mall, but it wasn't going to happen. Perhaps another time. In any case, I did find a super cute skirt at a great price. On Sunday we went to church then to Peet's. It was supposed to be rainy and yucky all weekend, but it didn't turn out that way.

Today, I have to pick up some stuff at the library and swing by Safeway. I also want to go to the craft store this week to buy supplies to make a sign for Geoff's race, which is in exactly 3 weeks.

With the regular tv season ending soon, I'm jazzed that Psych is returning in July. I found that the first season is being released on DVD next month, but it's $45. Um, that hardly seems right. The first season had only 15 episodes. I mean you'd pay that price for a House DVD, and you get 22 episodes. It still doesn't change me wanting it though.

I'm spending too much time on Facebook. But I am reconnecting with some cool people.

When Is Payday?

I saw this on the news yesterday. I'm ready to collect my first paycheck.

Reunited

Yep, it's true. Colin, Dawn, Dylan, Ryan, Geoff, Elijah, Miles and myself are renting a cottage in Laguna Beach in July. We haven't seen each other in 2 years, which is far too long. Colin is even hoping to bring his poker chips. Geoff is thrilled to be able to go diving in his old haunt.

Studio 60 is returning to tv! Finally. May 24. I'm probably the only one I know who cares.

This is the quiet month for us (ha ha). Next weekend, I want to take the family to the Colorado Railroad Museum on Saturday, then the family is taking me out to lunch on Mother's Day. At the end of the month we'll go up to Bolder with the Cherrys to cheer on Geoff in the Bolder Boulder. Jen & Greg come to visit in for a weekend in June. But they won't be staying with us. Our house isn't suited for them. But we'll keep them out here late. Or we'll send Elijah back to their hotel with them. :)

Death In The Front Yard

In case you didn't know, we have something living under our porch. We thought it was Horatio "Scarface" Bun-Bun. He's a rabbit. But the hole got much bigger, so we suspected it was something else. We called Animal Services to come and remove it, and they said they don't do that. Their thoughts on the suspect... a skunk. A mommy skunk looking for a place to have her babies. Oh great! So Geoff resigned himself to watch the hole for signs of abandonment. Friday, the last of Tuesday's snow melted and on the front lawn a dead baby bunny. So now we know who's living under the porch. I called Animal Services and they came and took it away.

Been a sunny weekend, but I haven't gone outside much at all. I can't seem to time it with the other stuff I'm doing. But I love having my guest here. She's did the most awesome thing last night, she picked a movie to watch and it was Swing Kids! Ha ha.

The boys are both okay. Miles is sleeping pretty good, and Elijah is good, when he's not acting like a typical 2 year old.

I can't believe it's nearly May. That's our quiet month, no visitors. We just count down the days until Jen & Greg come.

My in-laws are leaving today. It's been a wonderful visit, and I think the most affected will be Elijah, who simply adores Grampy.

Yesterday Nana & I took the kids to the museum, and on the drive home the rain turned to snow. I ended up having to shovel 3 inches off Geoff's half of the driveway so he could get in, and Grampy did the other half. Then at 7pm, Geoff went out and did another inch and a half. So now this morning, all we have a skiff, and our neighbors aren't so lucky. The news said we got 12 inches, but I don't think we go that much in our neighborhood.

Monday night Geoff and I went to McCabe's for dessert. It's so nice to have a date with my hubby. Geoff had the huge bread pudding, with brown bread ice cream and caramel sauce. I enjoyed a very tasty chocolate chip cheesecake.

What else is in store for this week? Um, Friday I will pick up our weekend visitor from the East, and the weather is supposed to be awesome, high 70s and low 80s. That's all that is on tap. I'll also need to get to Hallmark soon to get my Mother's Day cards.

Tiny Update

Just wanted to let y'all know I'm doing okay. I think it was a combination of allergies and a cold. I feel pretty good, just an occasional cough.

My in-laws are here until Wednesday, and everyone is having a good time. We've eaten a lot of good food. We got our Jim 'N Nicks dinner for free the other night.

It's sun sun sunny here, so we'll try to spend some time outside today.

Weekend

Friday we were supposed to get a foot of snow. When I looked outside the window at 3am, there was no snow. When we woke at 7am, there was barely a skiff. The storm ended up moving south, and we were spared. The snow we did get, melted by days end.

I started feeling a sore throat come on last night. I woke this morning with a full on sore throat, a headache and a runny nose. All that on top of the canker sore I've had for two days. So I don't feel great. The weather is gorgeous, and I don't feel like doing anything but sleeping. We'll pray I feel better tomorrow. It's just a cold, it could be much worse.

We didn't find time to watch Flags Of Our Fathers, perhaps another time. We did watch Flushed Away, which was kinda funny. Diane is bringing us Casino Royale, so we'll finally see it. I've heard good stuff about it from everyone.

April, Thus Far

So the Avs ended up missing the playoffs by one point. Who could have guessed Edmonton would have helped them out? We almost didn't tune in for the last game of the season, and it was a doozy. The Avs smoked the Flames, it was awesome. We won't bother watching the playoffs, we'll just hope the Red Wings knock Calgary out early.

It snowed Easter Sunday, so we hid eggs in the front room for Elijah to find. It was the cutest thing ever!

My in-laws are coming to visit next week. It'll be wonderful to have company. I hope the weather is nice for them. But they're just happy enough to spend time with the boys. Oh and us too.

We've decided not to participate in the Cherry Creek Sneak this year. We're okay with that, maybe we'll do it next year. I am looking forward to cheering Geoff on at the Bolder Boulder in May. I want to try and find a cowbell to bring along. Not only do I get to cheer for Geoff, but the whole Joneses family are doing the race too. You know the Joneses, they have us over every Thanksgiving.

The Hope Is Still Alive

Avs won last night, and Calgary lost. Now if they both can do that two more times...

We got two movies out of the library to watch, Flushed Away, and Flags Of Our Fathers. I'll be sure to let you know how we liked them once we watch them.

The boys are doing alright. Each day has it's (or is it its?) own challenges. Yesterday had some rough moments, so Geoff made my favorite for dinner. I'm pretty lucky to have him.

This weekend it's supposed to be chillier than it has been, with highs in the 40's (as opposed to the 60's and 70's). So I don't know if the little ones will go running with Daddy. I just hope for no snow on the ground on Sunday, so we can hide eggs in the backyard for Elijah.

My doctor's appointment was fine. My body is back to normal. I expected as much.

I don't think I have that much to share. Most of the news I know is about other people. I talked to Lexi yesterday. She's settling in nicely at school. She wants us to come to NY to see her, but I don't think we'll be able to swing that for a while. She's hoping to get enough points to come see us in the fall. Which is great, because fall is the earliest I want to even think about more visitors. I'm looking forward to the guests we're getting before our trip to CA, but then I think we'll need time to recover.

I went to the Trails last night and walked 20 minutes on the track. People talk about the weirdest things in the locker room.

Have any of you been watching Planet Earth? It's very visually appealing. It's even better if you can catch it in HD.

Finally Apple has done what I wanted them do forever ago. You can now "complete your album". If you bought a song (or songs) off an album, you can now buy the rest of them without duplicating the tracks you already own. Genius! I so wanted them to do this, and it is offering me until the end of June to buy albums from my purchases over the last 4 years. I looked over the list, and there is really only one album I want, and it's being offered to me for $8. Pretty awesome.

What's Shakin', Bacon?

Not much. It started snowing Wednesday night, and all day Thursday. But it's not a big deal to me, it'll be gone soon. Just a few inches. On Monday Kirstin, Niamh, Kieran, Amy & Caley came over. I always like when Elijah gets the chance to play with a boy. Caley mostly played by herself. They only stayed an hour or so, but it was nice to have company.

I get to go to the doctor this Monday for my 6 week check-up. I'm sure it will all be fine, my delivery went so smoothly.

I went to the Trails last Friday and walked/jogged for 20 minutes. Then I went again Wednesday night and did the elliptical for 20 minutes and burned 210 calories. I'm only 4 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight, and 8 away from my goal. But really, my weight isn't what bugs me, it's all the stretched out skin. As Geoff pointed out, I need to cut myself some slack. Hello, I just had a baby 5 weeks ago.

Much Better

Just a quick post so y'all aren't worried about me. I'm feeling much better, got a clear sign from God regarding what was stressing me. Though Geoff thinks the stress and my lack of sleep had manifested into the physical pain I was in on Sunday night and Monday. But Tylenol made that go away Monday, and today I feel fine.

I'll try to write more later. Gotta go run some errands.

Sigh

I'm feeling tired, and a little stressed. I've got some stuff weighing on my mind, but I'm not in a position to deal with it right now. But given what other people I know are going through, it's small potatoes. I'm going to pray for clarity, and for rest.

Last night I went to the Trails, and got on the elliptical for 20 minutes, burned 170 calories. Not nearly enough to work off the Fatburger we had for dinner. Heck my chocolate milkshake is 880 calories. But the meal was fantastic. :) The point is, I got off my butt and went to the gym. Now I need an iPod to make going to the gym more fun.

Speaking of music, the new Michael Bublé album comes out May 1, and iTunes released the first single Everything on Tuesday. It's not bad, it's more pop than jazz. We'll have to see what the rest of the album sounds like. If iTunes was offering me the chance to pre-order the album, I would have bought the single that day.

Quick Thoughts

- I function best on 9 hours sleep a night. I'm currently getting 7, and that's not 7 straight hours. But in a few months, I hope to get more sleep.

- I had a nice visit with my mom. It's been a year since I've seen her, and it's very weird for me to think it may be another year before we see each other again.

- My brother called me this weekend. Things are going great for him & the family. They are moving into a bigger, better house in a few weeks. And he may be getting promoted to management. I'm so proud of him.

- Geoff and I went out for Coldstone on Sunday night. We had dark chocolate ice cream with fudge sauce and M&M's. It was excellent!

- The boys are doing great. I feel blessed.

My Life

My life of late is pretty dull by blogging standards. I spend my day trying to amuse a toddler, and feed and change a baby. If I'm lucky, I can steal an hour long nap each day. I talk to either Lisa or Amy on any given day (plus Geoff), and that's my adult interaction. I think I'm ready to head to the Trails and start exercising again. I just need to decide what to do. I'm planning on taking the wall climbing class, but I'm not sure when. It's only a two week deal, then I'll be able to go and climb whenever. I did a walk to the bank this week, which is about 4 miles roundtrip. Just wanted to ease back into exercising. I was a little pooped by the time I got back, but I don't think I overdid it.

I got invited to two baby showers in the last 2 weeks, and haven't been able to attend either. That makes me mad. The first one, I was given two days notice, and it fell on one of the days Lisa was here. The next one is next Saturday, when my mom arrives (I was given 6 days notice). So frustrating!

I finished watching House Season Two (courtesy of Amy), so now I'm wondering what I'll watch in the late night hours of breastfeeding. I think it'll be either Red Dwarf, or I'll finally tackle Touching Evil (the British version). These are the times I wish I had Tivo. But then I might end up like this. Good Times

Lisa left this morning.

I miss her. I hate that she lives so far away. I've known her longer than anyone, and we had so much fun hanging out. It wasn't a long enough visit. Elijah loved Auntie Lisa. We need to work on Chad so we can get the whole family here.

Today Geoff went back to work, so it's just me and the boys. We went to Target after the airport, and I got my first taste of being out with a toddler and a baby. It wasn't too bad, so it's given me hope that I can actually go out alone with two kids.

So we're all doing alright. I feel like I'm getting enough sleep, and Geoff is a huge help. All I have going on this week is Elijah's birthday tomorrow and taking the kids to the pediatrician on Thursday. The weather is supposed to be great this week, so we'll likely get out for some walks. It is almost like the worst of our winter is over. I probably just jinxed us by saying that.

You Lost Me

With Studio 60 on hiatus until God knows when, and Psych having its season finale tomorrow, my tv watching time has totally freed up. I'm left with House, Lost & Scrubs. Now of the three, House is the only one turning out solid episodes, that is when Fox is airing them (stupid AI!). Scrubs this season has been 50/50, and I can almost say the same for Lost. This isn't to say I don't enjoy watching them, I do, but it's not packing the punches I expect, or want.

The Oscars were pretty disappointing. It was dull, and there is only so much one person can take of people kissing Al Gore's butt. Ellen DeGeneres did a fine enough job, she's a funny person. But she couldn't save the show for me. Unless I'm really into some of the movies this year, I don't know if I'll tune in next year. Geoff and I played our game of picking winners, and ended up tying with 10 categories each. He randomly guesses, I actually put a lot of thought into mine. So you can see, either method will work. I owe my tie to Kelly, if I didn't read her reviews each week, I wouldn't have heard of half of these movies.

Mother Of Two

It's a little weird for me to think I'm the mother of two children. I'm working on blogging the birth story, trying to rest when I can, and email people who haven't heard the news.

Everything is going alright thus far. My body hurts (understandably), and I'm working on trying to have extra grace and patience for the boys & man in my life. It's an adjustment for everyone. Well maybe not Honey Cat, not yet anyways.

Today we walked a little at Southlands, mostly for the fresh air. Tomorrow we have to go to the pediatrician and possibly to AAA to test drive a Vue.

I'll be watching the Oscars tonight, but it's not a big deal to me. I may not stay awake for all of it, sleep is a precious thing you know.

Vulnerable

First off, this post isn't directed at any one person. It's the result of several tiny things that accumulated into me wanting to hide away and shut out the world.

Yes, I'm still pregnant. Yes, I was due last week. This is why we haven't called people to tell them about the birth. There hasn't been a birth to tell about. I don't have the answers you want, and when you ask me why this or why that, it hurts me. Do you people really think we'd have a baby and not tell you?

I'm overly emotional. I'm pregnant. I want to have this baby, and I wanted to have had it by now. But I can't control the timing of this delivery (at this point). I'm healthy (except for being stressed out), and the baby is healthy too.

All I ask is for you to keep us in your prayers, and join us in being patient. I don't really want to talk much more about it other than that. Trust us, when he arrives, we'll let you know.

Weekend Pictures

Sunday we took a trip to Home Depot to buy some hooks and a broom to organize and clean our garage. Since we will be getting a 2nd car PDQ, we needed to make room for it. Now anyone who has seen our garage will tell you, it wasn't that bad to start with. I think that made the job go quickly. I, for one, love the look of a clean room, and am well pleased with Geoff's work. I am also pleased we were able to take 5 bags of stuff to Goodwill yesterday as well.

Last night we enjoyed dinner out at the Macaroni Grill as an early anniversary celebration. Amy, Shaun & Caley came over to play with Elijah. We may still do something else to mark the occasion of our 10th anniversary in the future. As my friend Kirsten pointed out, your 10th is always hard to celebrate because you are usually in the throws of children, and bills, and who knows what else!

Melting

This is what a week of melting looks like. Still no sign of new snow, but the forecasters are saying all next week there could be snow. Who cares at this point, we have our street back, and as Geoff says now we have a place to put the snow.

We traveled up to Boulder this morning, and I have now officially been to every Peet's in Colorado! The Boulder store is very nice (much like the one in CA you took me to Cate). We then did a stroll down the 29th Street Mall, which has a lot of the same stores as Southlands. It was just so nice outside, we wanted to spend it outside as a family.

We've made plans to go out to dinner tomorrow night to celebrate our tenth anniversary (which is on the 15th). We're going to the Macaroni Grill, which we haven't been back to since Elijah was very small.

This week didn't hold much stuff going on. Watched some good tv, House, Lost, Scrubs, Psych. Just waiting on the baby to arrive. Lisa will be here in less than 3 weeks, and my mom is coming a few weeks after that.

This Is More Like It

Yesterday was such a lovely day, and just watching the snow melt away, I felt like my snow sadness was melting away too. The promise of snow this coming weekend can't damper the fact that we have a lot of pavement showing on our street.



We're expecting a full week of sun, and snow to come on Friday. But I don't care, because the sun has indeed returned. This is what it is supposed to be like. Now all I need is to not go into labor while it's snowing.

After a three week hiatus from church, it was nice to go back. Elijah has moved up into the two year old room, because he's too big for the nursery. Following church, we took in a family swim at the Trails. Amy, Shaun & Caley came over to watch the Superbowl and we ordered pizza. But Amy & I did duck out before the game to get some kid-less time at Caribou. Overall, it was a quiet weekend.

This week, I don't have much going on. A doctor appt on Thursday, but that's it.

Feeling Like Myself Again

There isn't anything nicer then waking up and feeling like yourself again. The last few days, I've felt like me again. I'm still coughing a little, but other than that, I feel good. Well, I'm having Braxton Hicks, so I'm uncomfortable a few times a day.

Top Chef wrapped up this week, and Ilan won. I really couldn't have cared less who won, I didn't think any of them were worthy of the title. I would have been happy to have them let Harold win again (he was last season's winner). Frankly most of the chefs were very immature. I'll probably tune into season three when it airs, it's supposed to be set in Miami.

It snowed yesterday, just 2 inches. Marion, my neighbor came over and helped me shovel in the afternoon. It was 2 inches of powder, super fluffy. It's just nice to get outside and get fresh air. Elijah likes to help, and he did really help. He'd get a scoop of snow on his broom, and carry it to the trash to dump out. He's so funny. I've really enjoyed getting to know Marion. Last week Elijah and I went over to her house and he played with her cat Crackers. He's a little more interactive than Honey.

Would you believe it's Thursday, and they are still predicting a "no snow" weekend? We're supposed to get a few more inches today and tomorrow, but the weekend is supposed to be snow free. And the 7 day forecast shows no snow at all (not that I buy that). Now we just need a TON of sun to melt all this stuff.

I've packed my Pretty In Pink DVD to watch in the hospital (my room has a flat screen tv), so I'll close with a quote from that.

On The Mend

Just a quick note to thank y'all for the prayers and well wishes. What began on Wednesday last week, seems to be tapering off. Sunday and Monday, I had the nasty cough, and really bad allergies. I got a pretty good night's sleep last night, and I'm not coughing so much. Even my allergies feel manageable. I'm on Sudafed (doctor ok'd it), and I don't need to walk around with a box of kleenex anymore.

I'm watching Caley for a bit this morning, then Amy, the kids and I will go see Kirsten & her new daughter. I'll bring my camera and try to take a picture. For the curious, Kirsten's daughter has a gaelic name (her name is Niamh, pronounced "neeve"), which she tells me is the most popular name in Ireland right now. So while it seems odd here in the U.S., when they move to Ireland in 4 years, she'll fit right in.

eh. cough cough. I still have a nasty cough, and my face hurts. But I was able to get some sleep and the coughing was at a minimum. Yay God! Thank you for hearing my prayers. Obviously I don't plan to bring my germs to church, but that also means not bringing my germs to the pool. I hope to improve ten fold by tomorrow, as I am stopping by Kirsten's, and would love to see the new baby. I may end up just seeing her front porch.

This weekend's snow didn't add much to the piles, just added slickness to the icy ruts on the street. Yuck. We'll (hopefully) get some sun the next two or three days to melt some more before we get an ugly storm blow in Thursday.

Sucks Eggs

I'm sick.

Yesterday I had a cough, sore throat and a general ache-iness. As a result, I missed out on celebrating Caley's birthday (but the boys went). Today I feel even worse. It took forever to fall asleep last night. My indigestion was so painful, and it would trigger big coughing fits. At one point I tried to sleep sitting up, but it was so uncomfortable. I just wanted to cry because I was tired and couldn't sleep. Eventually I did sleep, though not great.

Tonight we're touring the hospital, and I have a few small errands to run during the day. Then I plan on staying inside and resting. This really sucks because Kirsten invited me over to meet her baby. And I certainly don't want to expose them to whatever I have.

The weather this week has been sunny, and we're getting a lot of melting. I like to go outside and just stand in the sun. Oh yeah, we're expected to get snow this weekend, but I'm not sure how much. I don't even trust the meteorologists, since they screwed up last week and said it was going to be no big deal.

Anyways, please pray for healing, and that the boys don't get sick. I'm going to have a cup of tea. I'll close with a quote from Phenomenon.

There's Snow Place Like Colorado

Sunday Morning

It's funny to look back at my last post and see that we thought we were only getting a few fat flakes. Ha ha ha. The weatherman was way wrong, and we ended up seeing between 6-9 inches. Geoff had to go out twice, just to stay on top of it. sure could have used Lexi this weekend. As a result of the crappy weather, we didn't make it to church, we didn't go swimming, and I didn't get to go out with Amy. But, we did enjoy a lovely pork chop dinner (Tyler's recipe) and a chocolate pound cake.

Frustrated by my inability to get the mail without walking onto an icy street, I ratted out one of my neighbors to the HOA. Will their sidewalk get shoveled? I'm not holding my breath. I can deal with a front street that it one rut after another, I HATE not having my sidewalk.

We won't get a reprieve from the weekly snowstorms until the dumb jet stream moves.

I have hundreds of photos in shoeboxes, which take up space in my closets, so when I got a Target gift card for my birthday (thanks Athena!) I bought some photo albums. I spent the weekend going through the photos and was able to get all the photos from our life in Edmonton in an album. Whoo-hoo! Now I'm working on California life. So the stocking project has not been started. But I'm happy to see this project making headway.

Yeah I'm nesting. I know. But really, having stuff organized bugs me all the time. It's just with a new one arriving soon, I want to tackle things I know I won't want to in the coming months. Like filing, and trips to Goodwill.

My friend Kirsten had her baby last week. I'm waiting to hear back from her on the name they settled on, but it was a healthy baby girl, 8lbs 6 oz. Her doctor said she'd be early, but in actuality, she had her the day after her due date.

Another gift I got for my birthday was Lady In The Water. We watched it this weekend. It was good, it was very M. Night. So if you aren't a fan, I don't know that you would like it. I'll close with a quote from it.

Snow Update

Just wanted to let you know that yes, for the 5th week in a row, we got snow. But it didn't add up to anything. It was just fat flakes. We'll get more of them tomorrow too.

Above is a picture of the front street. Do you see what I see? Pavement! The ruts have reached pavement! The snow still probably won't be all gone until April. That's my guess. Here's how tall it still is on the front lawn.

Run Around Sue

Since I have a doctor's appt today, I plan to try and get some errands done with the car. I almost dread doing errands, I end up having to go to 3 or 4 places. Wouldn't be so bad, but then you add getting a toddler in and out of a car seat, in and out of a building, and it makes for a long day. Wouldn't it be great if I could just go one place and have it all there? But I'm sure if the world was like that, it would be a dull place, and people wouldn't interact with each other nearly enough.

We had such a lovely visit with Lexi, and all of us were sad to see her go. Monday night, Elijah said "Lexi bye bye", and we told him, yes Lexi went bye bye. We mostly hung around the house, played games and ate yummy food. She said she can't wait to come back.

The snow last weekend was pretty tame, compared to the previous 3 weekends. This may be the first Friday in forever we don't get snow. That snow (coming from Canada, thanks a lot), if it shows up, won't be until early next week. All 3 of us are anxiously awaiting the day (or month) when we can get out as a family.

I bought a Christmas stocking for boy #2, so one of these nights I'll begin that project. With Elijah's stocking, I started a few months before he was born, then picked it up again a few months before Christmas to finish it. I like to leave myself a lot of time.

Another Day Older

I had a good, but uneventful birthday. Thank you to everyone who sent cards, gifts and well wishes by phone, email, and blogs. Didn't do anything special, but we'll go out to dinner with Lexi this weekend, and I'll get her & Geoff to bake me a cake. Plus I can always do something at a later date (when there is money and possibly a babysitter). 30 doesn't feel so different.

The snow started late Thursday night, but there wasn't much of it. They expect a few inches each day. The change from past storms is that the temperature is pretty low for us. It's not Canada-low. But we're in single digits and negative temperatures at night. Currently it's -8 F, which is -22 C. At least I can look back at when I was in CA a few weeks ago, and walking around in my t-shirt. I think maybe I need to plan on going somewhere warm every January.

House was good this week, and I was super annoyed to find out it'll be 3 weeeks for another new episode! That's just mean. Thankfully I got season one on DVD for my birthday, so I can overdose on it if I choose.

Lexi got in alright last night, and I have to make sure I take some pictures. She's excited about the snow and cold, she says it's a welcome change from sun all the time. Silly Californian.

Snow Snow Go Away

A change in the weather schedule, now "round 4" as the meteorologists are calling it, is coming on Thursday, instead of Friday. What a nice birthday present from Mother Nature. They think it might be the end of them for a while. Let's hope so, I mean 4 storms in 4 weeks, it's ridiculous.

We got out on Saturday and did grocery shopping and a trip to Home Depot. Then we spent the rest of the day hanging around the house, and feeling bummed out about the next storm. It just puts a damper on the weekends. We cancelled our date, and we'll reschedule it for a later time. We still spent time together though. Sunday after church we went to the pool to play. It must have been good exercise, because my muscles hurt today.

Just for fun, I started a registry at Crate & Barrel. I thought what the hey! It's our tenth anniversary next month, and it'll be good come Christmas time too. I love wishlists, what can I say?

In tv land...House finally returns this week. Yay! I've been watching Top Chef and this last week, it took a turn for the interesting. People I liked before, I certainly don't think much of now. I thought it was so childish for all of them to gang up on Marcel, even if he can be annoying.I'm closing with the best line from the epsiode.

Early Birthday Gifts

Last year I spent the weekend after my birthday in sunny California. This year, California is coming to me. Lexi is coming here the day after my birthday! Pretty cool birthday gift huh? I'm very excited, she'll be staying for the long weekend.

I'll get the pictures from the wedding up today, but I'm not in any of them. Silly girl I am, I didn't take any of me. But I emailed those who did take pictures of me, so hopefully I can get those for you to see. Just take my word that I looked good.

Not much else is going on. I'm nearly done writing all the Christmas thank you notes. I bought Gin Blossoms' new album Major Lodge Victory with my iTunes gift card I got in my stocking. I like it. You would like it too, if you are a fan of the Gin Blossoms. Geoff and I may finally go on another date (a movie!) this weekend. Just need to check with Amy.

California Recap

I had a wonderful trip to CA. Short and sweet. Got in okay, and we headed right to In-N-Out. For dinner that night, Ashley, Chris, Lexi, Alyssa, Alec, Abbie and I went to Cafe Chin Chin. I tried the Kung Pao Chicken and water chestnuts (both for the first time). Very tasty.

Friday I spent helping get stuff ready for the wedding, then had some time to change and get ready before I was back at the church doing last minute things. The ceremony was lovely, and then I tried to help the guests find their seating for the reception. The food was delicious. They had a chocolate fountain with your choice of oreos, marshmellows, or rice krispie squares. Excellent choices! There was also fruit and a Martinelli's fountain. And, what I thought was even cooler, was the coffee bar. There was always a line there. Their DJ was amazing, I hope Amy & Brody can get him. The dance was a lot of fun, and I sure was pooped by the end of the night. I was happy that I could take advantage of the money dance and get one on one time with Erik.

Saturday I took Cindy, Alyssa, Alec, & Abbie to McDonald's for breakfast on our way to help take down the wedding. What we thought would only take an hour or so, turned out to be more. Eventually we finished, and Cindy and I went out to lunch at Mustard's (the yummy Panini place). I had a salad, because I needed to get something healthy to eat. :) We returned to the house and I was surprised to see some of my friends at my baby shower! I got some wonderful gifts, including a handmade quilt from Godmother Cate and a double stroller from the Kroliks!

Saturday night we just hung around the house mostly. I did take a trip to Trader Joes (oh how I miss TJ's) to get Geoff a treat and a little something for my father-in-law's birthday.

Sunday I went to church with Cate & Kaisara, then we took a trip to the new Peet's store that opened up. It was lovely to be able to sit outside and drink coffee. We met Jen at In-N-Out for lunch, and then more time outside playing crib. The trip to the airport went smoothly. My flight ended up being delayed by 45 minutes, but I had no problems making my connection. I was so happy once I got to Denver, only to be upset when I found out my shuttle I booked wasn't going to take me home. I called Geoff, and he & Elijah came and got me. No worries, the roads were in fine shape. I am taking partial credit for that. Geoff thinks the call I made to the county about our street was the reason it got plowed. Lesson to learn...don't upset a pregnant lady.

So that was my trip. I sure miss everyone, and I am looking forward to Lexi's visit. Please pray it all comes together and she can get here in 2 weeks.

Just a quick note, to let you know I got home safely from CA. I'll post later, I'm tired, and I want to try to nap while Elijah naps.

2007 is sure to be a wonderful year for us, and for many people I know. I look forward to all the good surprises it will hold. :)
